Clean Before Unpacking:
Hire a local cleaning company to clean your home before your movers arrive with the furniture.
"First Night" Essentials Box: Whether it be Cross Country Moving or Local Moving, pack a clear plastic box with everything you might need for the first night in your new home. This could include toiletries, a change of clothes, important medication, phone chargers, and some basic kitchen items like a kettle and mugs. Having this box ensures you won't be rummaging through multiple boxes just to find your toothbrush or a charger.
Fill your Fridge:
Pre-order essential groceries a week before and have them delivered the night the moving experts arrive. This will save you the time of going to the grocery store and will ensure that you have you would need for that much needed cup of coffee the next morning.
Bedding Box: Set aside the bedding you would need to have a cozy night sleep. This is extra beneficial if you have children.
Photo Your Electronic Setups: Before unplugging and packing away your electronic devices, take photographs of how cables and wires are connected. When you're setting up in your new home, these photos can serve as a quick reference guide, ensuring you reconnect everything correctly without any guesswork. In addition, take a clear plastic Gallon Ziploc bag and for each device (TV’s, computers, etc) place each devices’ remotes, cables and any other relevant equipment in same bag. Mark the bag with a Sharpie indicating the room/family member’s equipment so that when electronic equipment is placed in appropriate room all you have to do is pull out relevant Ziploc and all wires, cables, remotes, keyboards and mice are all at your fingertips! Place all Ziploc bags in same box and mark accordingly.
Fur Babies: Make sure your beloved pets are prepared for the journey. Pack a box with food, bowls leashes, bed, and toys so that they are made comfortable in their new surroundings and are taken care of in a timely manner.
